If you are unemployed for any reason other than lack of work, Minnesota law requires that a process is followed to determine whether you are eligible for benefits. This is what happens:
- You will be asked questions about why you are unemployed.
- Your employer will be asked the same questions.
- Your answers and your employer‘s answers will be reviewed to determine whether you are eligible for benefits. This usually takes no more than three weeks from the week you applied for benefits.
- No matter what the decision is, you and your employer will be mailed a determination to explain the decision. The determination can be appealed by either you or your employer.
The most important thing to remember in this process is to respond to all questions completely, honestly and quickly.
