The law says that the first week you request a benefit payment, and are eligible for benefits, is not paid. This first week is called your "waiting week". The waiting week is never paid. You must serve a waiting week in order to be eligible for payments for later weeks. There is one waiting week per benefit account. To get credit for the waiting week, you must request a benefit payment and meet all eligibility requirements for that week.
