Traveling Outside Your Commuting Area
|
Applicants may be eligible for benefits while they are temporarily away from Minnesota if the purpose of the trip is to actively seek suitable employment. Applicants may continue to request benefit payments online by logging in to their account or calling the automated phone system.
Applicants who expect to be in another state for more than four weeks must change their address when requesting benefit payment. Also, applicants are required to register with the CareerOneStop Center / Unemployment Insurance office in that area. The location of the nearest office is listed in the government section of the local telephone directory.
After applicants return to Minnesota, they must update their address and continue requesting benefit payment for the weeks they are unemployed.
Inactive benefit accounts that have a balance remaining and have not expired can be reactivated using the Applicant Self-Service System.
