Online job search training

Looking for work takes skills and effort - skills that you can learn through this series of job search classes.

These eLearning classes provide an interactive learning experience designed to teach you the skills needed to find a job. Each class is broken into topics that include instruction, interaction, and learning activities. On average each class will take approximately one hour to complete. However, the actual time will vary depending on how much you invest in the learning.

Introduction to Job Search   
Approximately 1 hour

A successful job search requires knowledge and skill.  This is a good place to learn creative and effective ways to find a job. 

In this class you will learn:

  • Where people find jobs, what employers expect, what successful job seekers do, and how to look for work online.
  • How to handle job loss and manage change.
  • Ways to manage your job search schedule and activities.
  • The value of information in your job search.
  • How to identify your skills.

Resume Class   
Approximately 1 hour

When you are looking for a job you’re selling a product – you. Your resume is an important tool to market your qualifications to potential employers.

In this class you will learn:

  • How important your resume is and how employers use resumes.
  • What content you might include and different formats you can use.
  • How to write a great resume that will help you stand out from the competition.
  • How to use your resume.

Approximately 1 hour

Networking is one of the most effective job search strategies you will use. You’ll hear about the benefits of networking and ways to network in your job search. You’ll be presented with information and exercises to help you be successful.

In this class you will learn:

  • How networking will improve your job search success.
  • How to build relationships that will help you get a job.
  • Strategies to help people get to know you.
  • How to use business cards and social media to connect with people.
  • How to try out what you learned with a networking challenge!

Approximately 1 hour

An employment interview is simply a meeting between you and a potential employer to discuss your qualifications, where the employer has a chance to learn about you and how you fit into the organization, and you have a chance to learn about the company and whether it’s right for you.

In this class you will learn:

  • How to prepare for an interview.
  • The different types of interviews and what to expect from each.
  • How to respond to some typical interview questions.
  • How to leave a great impression.
  • Strategies for dealing with the tough questions.
