New federal stimulus legislation

Congress recently passed stimulus legislation that may affect your unemployment benefits.

We are still awaiting official administrative guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor on some key elements of this legislation. The information below is subject to change as we learn more.

$300 per week supplemental payments

If you receive an unemployment benefit payment of any amount for a qualifying week, you will receive a $300 supplemental payment. This program is now extended through early September 2021.

If you are eligible to receive a benefit payment of at least $1, you will automatically receive the $300 supplemental payment. You don’t need to make any kind of special request to receive the $300 supplemental payment.

Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) extension

Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) is a federal benefit extension program for people who have exhausted their regular unemployment benefits. This program is now extended through early September 2021.

  • If you are already receiving PEUC: We have already updated your account to reflect the PEUC extension. Keep requesting payment each week you are unemployed.
  • If you are currently receiving regular unemployment benefits: View our Applying for a benefit extension page for more information.

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) extension

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) provides weekly benefit payments for those who are not eligible for regular or extended unemployment benefits in Minnesota or any other state. This program is now extended through early September 2021.

  • If you are already receiving PUA: We have already updated your account to reflect the PUA extension. Keep requesting payment each week you are unemployed.
